I recently read the average lifespan of a creator is 5 years. Many close up shop way before that, because to tell you the truth: it is a special kind of game.
I've seen creator friends go from absolute fame and making ridiculous amounts of money to losing everything because the fad they jumped on came to a halt.
Me included. I've had my fair share of wins, losses and some painful reality checks over the years.
Like that one time I thought I was THE shit, making $20k/m with my then agency - only to go to literally back to ZERO, losing all of my clients, because I had jumped on one of these "fads".
It was a painful reality check to tell you the truth, but also a blessing in disguise - seeing as I had to completely reshape my understanding of the content world and the creator economy.
The Recent Creator Boom
The past 2 years have been faster and more different than any of the years I've seen, especially when it comes to short form content, algorithms and platforms.
And having worked hands-on with a few hundred creators in my 1:1 Mentorship program I see one major change happen in front of my eyes day in day out.
The change being that the game has become so complex that you need a top-down understanding and datapoints to not waste all of your time and energy in trying to figure it out yourself. Unfortunately.
Just put out content and see what will happen unfortunately doesn't do it anymore - because by the time you've figured it out, the game will already have started to change and you'll see yourself losing steam again, having no clue as to why.
That's why most creators quit. That's also why so many new "creator gurus" have popped out recently.
Things started to work for them and they now think their way of doing things is the only way, ever. Survivorship bias and stuff - when in reality there's so many different factors coming into play nowadays.
